Wearing With Jéan

A sustainable and chic Australian brand.

We stumbled upon With Jéan on our IG explore feed (an example of the one time we don’t mind our social media stalking our every like and interest) and fell instantly in love with their ‘70s vibe, funky prints, and flattering silhouettes.

The Andy Dress

I bought the Andy Dress in color “Forest” which is true to the color. It’s neither a deep emerald green nor a light green—it’s right snug in the middle.

We love the heavy fabric, the slight sheen, and the way the fabric gathers in the center of the Andy Dress to accentuate the waist. We also love that you can keep it all the way buttoned up or unbutton it to add some cleavage if you’re feeling it.

I am a believer that you should buy something twice if you love the way it fits (and I’m not saying that just because I have a twin). It can be rare to find an outfit with a perfect fit for your body, that just makes you feel good.

So, a week after receiving my dress in “Forest,” I ordered this dress in color “Maple” which is a shade brighter than burnt orange, one of my favorite colors of the season.

I thought “third times a charm” and bought the Alexa dress (the Andy dress with short sleeves) in color “Electra,” a deep blue. Someone take my credit card away, plz.

Sidebar: I’ve travelled with these bad boys and they travel extremely well. This fabric is literally wrinkle-proof.

STYLING

To enhance the ‘70s vibe, we style this with these amazing faux snakeskin boots we bought a few years back. I love doing blue for an added pop of color, but it looks equally good with black and white snakeskin.

To make this a daytime look, wear it with sneakers or Doc Martens, as seen here with the Alexa dress.

SUSTAINABILITY

In terms of sustainability, we are happy that this brand focuses on creating pieces in limited quantity drops rather than collections with seemingly unlimited inventory.

In general, the pressure to create collections leads to overproduction and waste.

Next, this brand uses a presale model, which means they track demand rather than simply anticipating demand, again avoiding overproduction.

Under the “Ethics” portion of their website, they describe their ethical labor practices, in which they utilize “artisan sewers” from family-owned businesses in Indonesia and China. Although we are suspicious of production practices in general and can never truly know a brand’s production conditions, we do appreciate their directness in having this featured prominently on the site.

Finally, as of April 2018, this brand started donating $1 from every purchase to one of three projects focused on empowering women. Um, we stan that.
