Let's f*cking Glow: Beach Beauty Essentials

Unless you have a perfectly spray tanned pore-less marble-looking face (are you even human?–things I ask my dog daily) you probably suffer from PAFS (pale ass face syndrome) like we do (literally, WHY does my face never tan). But ladies, we got your backs.

Here are our favorite beauty products to help you attain that perfect natural glow when you hit the beach for SB2k18 (hopefully in some of our Top Swimwear Picks for 2018). Say Boi Bye to PAFS.

First things first, you need face sunscreen (seriously, don’t skimp on this). BEFORE YOU ROLL YOUR EYES AND CLOSE THIS PAGE BECAUSE THAT'S OBVIOUS ASF, DON'T. You will miss out on important info and you will be upset when other gals read through and look like beach goddesses in Punta Cana or Cancun.

If you have acne prone skin like we do, then the idea of oily face sunscreen probably also scares the sh*t out of you. Thus, we have MURAD.

We are literally obsessed with the Murad brand—this SPF 15 sunscreen product is unreal. It’s extremely mattifying and we never have to worry about a post-sun break out after wearing it all day (thanks to the additions of tea tree oil and willow bark extract added to its formula).

*If you plan on tanning all day, use an alternative that offers a lot more SPF.

NOW, LET'S CURE THAT PAFS.

Next, we layer on a light foundation to cure our PAFS and give our skin that natural dewy beach glow with HOURGLASS: “Illusion Hyaluronic Skin Tint.”

We cannot rave about this product enough—it stays on all day long and provides a beautiful tan finish without looking or feeling caked on while providing great coverage for problem areas.

This comes in 11 shades, but for reference, we use the shade “Golden” to get a gorgeous tan look while also trusting that we prob won’t burn (it has SPF 15- get you a product that can do both).

After spending all day sunning, you have to maintain moisture (because if you have dry peeling skin on your face how are you going to put on face makeup later when you hit the club—lmk. Also dry skin is just uncomfortable asf so let's do something about it).

Because winter in Boston has made our faces dry as f*ck and we literally looked like snakes peeling layers of skin off on a weekly basis, we were on the hunt for a lotion or product that would keep our skin hydrated. We have tried every lotion and when even our favorite Clinique lotion was leaving our face too dry, we looked to a new brand, LANEIGE.

& we are f*cking OBSESSED.

This product is a LIFESAVER. We have combination dry/oily skin (because only one of those isn’t enough ha-ha help us). I apply this maybe 4 times a day, whenever I feel like I need extra moisture, and it leaves my skin feeling smooth, hydrated, and not greasy (it’s a miracle). So now that we have discussed how to acquire and maintain a perfect glowy beach face, lets talk body. That is, Balibody.

As much as we hate to say it, Balibody actually works (they refuse to post me on IG and I’m still #notbitter). I have never gotten more tan in my life than when I was in Tunisia and used BALIBODY’s “Cacao Tanning Oil.” It’s only SPF 6 so for legal reasons I’m going to say in advance that if that’s the only product you use to protect your skin on the beach—then you might get burnt.

When using tanning oil, it is key to keep checking up on your skin in the shade and seeing if you are getting red. At that point, we recommend switching over to sunscreen. The balance of tanning oil and sunscreen is difficult but important—don’t pull a Sarah and get sun poisoning on your first day of break.

Note that this oil is a dark liquid, so we recommend not wearing your fav white kini when using this. Wear the side bae of swimsuits that you brought on the trip. Additionally, the design of the cap is not ideal as oil always falls down the side, so bring napkins and a plastic bag to put the bottle in when you’re done using it for the day. IT’S NOT EASY BUT IT’S WORTH IT. I WAS TAN AF IN TUNISIA.
